The area around Soi Thong Lor in Bangkok is nothing if not a Mecca for Japanese food enthusiasts. With possibly the greatest concentration of Japanese restaurants in Bangkok, including some of the very best, you are as a visitor clearly spoiled for choice.
The prevalence of Japanese food in the area is already clear as you leave Sukhumvit road and start to venture down the soi. Even before the first side streets or sois appear, Japanese restaurants are abundant and it only gets better. Littered acorss the Thong Lor area are famous restaurants like Uomasa and Nobu as well as countless others like Maki Maki, Nanase Ramen, Teppen, Kaze Fresh Japanese restaurant and countless more. And the reason for the prevalence of Japanese food in this area ads even more to its appeal: Japanese food is extremely prevalent due to the many Japanese expats living in the area. As such, it is Japanese food made to the discerning taste of the Japanese themselves who are famously quality conscious when it comes to their food. The quality of Japanese food available in the Thong Lor area clearly underscores this and the quantity of places ensures that every possible Japanese specialty, from sushi to ramen to Japanese curries, are available here.
One last place in the area we will mention is Mikaku, the renowned Teppanyaki restaurant from the Gion district in Kyto. They recently opened their first Bangkok restaurant in Thong Lor, their first outside Japan. If you are in the market for some prime Kobe beef teppanyaki, this would be an excellent choice. Bon Appetit!
