Thong Lor offers the most dynamic dining scene in the Thai capital of Bangkok and nowhere is that more apparent than in the wide selection of innovative contemporary style restaurants in the area. These often combine a very stylish minimalistic interior with standard as well as re-imagined versions of contemporary food. Among the larger places is Bottoms Up which offers a wide menu and a fully stocked bar to its many patrons. Whether you decide to sit inside in the larger dining area or to enjoy your food at their ample balcony space, you are in for a treat.
Another option is a Bangkok institution with a branch in Thong Lor known as Greyhound Café. This chain spread from this area to setup cafes in most major areas in Bangkok and their success is well deserved. Greyhound offers a mix of Thai, western and fusion fare all set in their elegant yet minimalistic café surroundings. Among the favorites are their calamari (especially the sauce), their complicated noodles and their fusion spaghettis. They also offer an excellent selection of mocktails based solely on mixes of juice.
However, if your idea of contemporary food is slightly more bar food oriented, you are still in luck. While an establishment like Fat Gut’z Saloon is certainly a worthy contender, we would advise you to try out Iron Faerie. This New Orleans inspired bar and restaurant in the center of Thong Lor is as much a destination for its atmosphere as its dining. A litteral dark cave of wonders, your visit may include magicians, live jazz and much more, all while enjoying what is arguably the best burger in town. One thing is for sure – it will be memorable.
